Over its more than 70 year history, United Ability has successfully been on the leading edge of providing innovative medical, rehabilitative, educational, and employment solutions to the unique population they serve. In the last year, their 10 programs addressed the needs of more than 5,700 individuals: ranging from birth to senior citizens, including physical and intellectual disabilities, focused on individuals and families, located on-campus and beyond.

After the campus’ first closure in their extensive history for COVID, United Ability – and the dedicated staff – immediately shifted by integrating FaceTime, Zoom, Telemedicine, emails, and phones to continue serving all who rely on their programs and services. EVERY one of United Ability’s 10 programs found innovative ways to remain active. Some programs have begun the careful process of returning to campus while others continue remote virtual operations – proving that HOPE ENDURES.

Life is often measured in milestones, but what do you do if these milestones are moved farther away…or taken away all together?

This is the struggle faced by the children and adults living with a disability – and their families – who have looked to United Ability as a partner on their journey to a full and meaningful life.

By focusing on an individual and their ABILITY, things never thought possible suddenly are:

A toddler telling his mother “I love you” for the first time by working with a speech therapist to utilize a specialized speech device
A child taking his first steps, after intensive physical therapy often delivered is his own classroom
An adult finding not only a community of peers to spend her day with but also a program providing life enrichment skills to increase her independence at home
An employee being empowered through accommodations for her disability to excel on a new career path

While these milestones are worthy of celebration, so are the inchstones. The treasured moments each day that are often taken for granted but that are part of each participant’s individualized journey of hope for a more promising future.
